Today, we pause as a grateful nation to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom. Memorial Day is not about barbecues, sales, or a long weekend; it is about remembering those who never made it home.
Across Georgia and this great nation, we stand in solemn gratitude for every service member who gave their life so that future generations could live free. Their courage was not measured by words, but by action, sacrifice, and devotion to something greater than themselves.
President Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” Those words remind us that liberty has always carried a cost and that cost has been paid by America’s fallen heroes.
As your Department of Georgia VFW State Commander, I ask every citizen today to take a moment of silence, say their names, remember their families, and never forget the price of freedom.
