Georgia VFW Elects New Leadership for 2026-27

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Georgia concluded a highly successful Annual State Convention, bringing together VFW and Auxiliary leaders, members, and supporters from across the state for several days of business, recognition, and fellowship. The convention provided an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year, address important organizational matters, and chart the course for the future of the Department.

Delegates from VFW Posts throughout Georgia gathered to conduct the official business of the organization, including the consideration of proposed resolutions and amendments to the Department bylaws. Through thoughtful discussion and deliberation, members worked together to strengthen the organization and ensure that the Department remains focused on its mission of serving veterans, military families, and their communities.

One of the highlights of the convention was the recognition of excellence across the Department. All-State VFW Posts and Districts were honored for their outstanding achievements and commitment to membership growth, community service, veteran advocacy, and support of VFW programs. These prestigious recognitions reflect the dedication of volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to make a positive impact in their local communities and to uphold the values of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Numerous individual awards were also presented during the convention, recognizing VFW members, Auxiliary members, community partners, and supporters whose efforts have strengthened the organization and advanced its mission. Their contributions serve as an inspiration to fellow members and demonstrate the enduring spirit of service that defines the VFW.

A particularly memorable event took place on Thursday evening during the convention’s awards ceremony. The program was generously sponsored by GEICO Local Agents Steven Wilson and Alveno Nelson, whose support helped make the event a tremendous success. The ceremony showcased many of the VFW Auxiliary’s outstanding youth programs, highlighting the positive influence these initiatives have on young people throughout Georgia.

The evening also recognized recipients of the VFW Public Service Awards, honoring exceptional individuals from law enforcement, firefighting, emergency medical services, and other public safety professions. These dedicated men and women exemplify service above self and play a critical role in protecting Georgia’s communities. Their recognition underscored the VFW’s longstanding commitment to honoring those who serve both in and out of uniform.

As the convention progressed, members reflected on a year of significant accomplishments under the leadership of State Commander Bill Miles. Throughout his tenure, Commander Miles worked diligently to promote the mission of the VFW, strengthen relationships with veterans and community organizations, and support Posts and Districts throughout the Department of Georgia.

His leadership helped guide the organization through another productive year focused on veteran advocacy, membership growth, youth engagement, and community service. Under his watch, Georgia VFW members continued to make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans and their families across the state.

The Department extends its sincere gratitude to Commander Bill Miles for his dedicated service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the organization, and members across Georgia thank him for a job well done.

As convention business concluded, attention turned toward the future. Delegates elected a new slate of officers to lead the Department of Georgia VFW during the coming year. Likewise, the Department of Georgia Auxiliary elected its officers for the ensuing year, ensuring strong leadership and continued collaboration between the two organizations.
