The Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Georgia joins the nation in celebrating the 250th Birthday of the Marine Corps. Monday, November 10, 2025, marks a historic milestone, the 250th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Since its founding in 1775 at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Marine Corps has stood as one of America’s most enduring symbols of courage, discipline, and devotion to duty. For two and a half centuries, Marines have fought, led, and sacrificed whenever and wherever the nation called, from the shores of Tripoli and Iwo Jima to the deserts, jungles, and cities of modern battlefields around the world.
On this milestone anniversary, VFW Department of Georgia State Commander Bill Miles extended his personal message of gratitude and respect to all Marines, past and present.
“For 250 years, Marines have embodied what it means to serve with honor, courage, and commitment,” said Commander Miles. “Their legacy is not just found in the battles they’ve fought but in the brotherhood and sisterhood they continue to build within our veteran community. The VFW is proud to stand alongside them, carrying forward the same spirit of service that defines the Marine Corps.”
From the earliest days of the Continental Marines to the modern expeditionary force recognized across the globe today, the Marine Corps has been integral to the defense of freedom and the protection of American ideals. Generations of Marines have transitioned from active duty to civilian life and found new missions within the Veterans of Foreign Wars, continuing to lead, mentor, and serve their communities across Georgia and beyond.
In nearly every Post across the great State of Georgia, you’ll find Marines, young and old. They are still answering the call to serve. Whether volunteering in their local communities, mentoring younger veterans, or standing in formation at parades and ceremonies, these Marines remind us that the “Once a Marine, Always a Marine” ethos extends far beyond the battlefield.
As we honor this 250th milestone, we also celebrate the deep connection between the Marine Corps and the VFW. Both of these great institutions share a foundation built on loyalty, leadership, and lifelong service. The VFW remains steadfast in supporting all Marines and their families, advocating for the benefits they’ve earned and ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten. On behalf of the entire State Commander Bill Miles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Georgia, we say, “Happy 250th Birthday, United States Marine Corps.” Your honor, courage, and commitment continue to inspire generations of veterans and patriots alike.
