On this Patriot Day, we pause with solemn hearts to remember the nearly three thousand lives lost on September 11th, 2001. It is a day etched into our nation’s memory, a day when ordinary Americans became heroes, when first responders ran toward danger, and when the spirit of unity rose from the ashes of tragedy.
For the Veterans of Foreign Wars here in Georgia and for our Active Duty service members standing watch around the world, Patriot Day is more than remembrance. Twenty-five years later, it is a reaffirmation of the principles we have sworn to uphold: duty, courage, and the unwavering commitment to protect our nation and its people.
In the quiet reflection of this day, we honor those who fell, those who fought, and those who continue to serve. We honor the families who carry the weight of sacrifice with dignity. And we honor the strength of a nation that, when tested, stood together as one.
Let us also reflect on the deeper virtues that guide us, the same virtues that have shaped generations of patriots: unity of purpose, fidelity to one another, and the steady light of service that never dims. These are the cornerstones upon which strong communities are built, the same principles that echo through our halls, our Posts, and our shared brotherhood.
As we move forward, may we continue to build, to serve, and to uplift each of us a living testament to the promise that America will always endure. May our actions honor the memory of those lost and strengthen the foundation of freedom for those yet to come.
