During March and April, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts and Districts across Georgia were actively engaged in conducting buddy checks and boosting membership to strengthen the organization statewide. As part of a friendly springtime competition among all 93 Posts and 10 Districts, those achieving the highest membership growth in their respective divisions were honored for their outstanding performance and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Post Winners by Membership Division<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In Georgia Membership Division 1, Gwinnett County Post 5255 in Lawrenceville earned top honors with an impressive 33.79% growth. Division 2 saw Chickamauga Post 3679 in Rossville take the lead with a 27.55% increase in membership. Quigg-Goss Post 4911 in Rome claimed the top spot in Division 3, growing by 32.46%. In Division 4, M C Purcell Post 8379 in Glennville achieved a remarkable 58.05% increase, securing first place. Rounding out the competition, J Barry Jones Post 3563 in Lyons led Division 5 with a 43.89% membership gain. Each Post secured $500 for its achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Commander Couch set a bold goal by challenging Posts across Georgia to reach 105% in overall membership. This ambitious target not only drives growth but also strengthens the Georgia VFW\u2019s position as a leading voice for veterans, both at the Gold Dome in Atlanta and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. These efforts ensure the VFW remains a vital force in supporting veterans and their families throughout communities across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During March and April, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts and Districts across Georgia were actively engaged in conducting buddy checks and boosting membership to strengthen the organization statewide. As part of a friendly springtime competition among all 93 Posts and 10 Districts, those achieving the highest membership growth in their respective divisions were honored for their outstanding performance and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Post Winners by Membership Division<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In Georgia Membership Division 1, Gwinnett County Post 5255 in Lawrenceville earned top honors with an impressive 33.79% growth. Division 2 saw Chickamauga Post 3679 in Rossville take the lead with a 27.55% increase in membership. Quigg-Goss Post 4911 in Rome claimed the top spot in Division 3, growing by 32.46%. In Division 4, M C Purcell Post 8379 in Glennville achieved a remarkable 58.05% increase, securing first place. Rounding out the competition, J Barry Jones Post 3563 in Lyons led Division 5 with a 43.89% membership gain. Each Post secured $500 for its achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These efforts ensure the VFW remains a vital force in supporting veterans and their families throughout communities across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During March and April, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts and Districts across Georgia were actively engaged in conducting buddy checks and boosting membership to strengthen the organization statewide. As part of a friendly springtime competition among all 93 Posts and 10 Districts, those achieving the highest membership growth in their respective divisions were honored for their outstanding performance and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Post Winners by Membership Division<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In Georgia Membership Division 1, Gwinnett County Post 5255 in Lawrenceville earned top honors with an impressive 33.79% growth. Division 2 saw Chickamauga Post 3679 in Rossville take the lead with a 27.55% increase in membership. Quigg-Goss Post 4911 in Rome claimed the top spot in Division 3, growing by 32.46%. In Division 4, M C Purcell Post 8379 in Glennville achieved a remarkable 58.05% increase, securing first place. The next-door neighbors and the kids who lived down the block \u2013 they were high school quarterbacks, cheerleaders and, yes, even class clowns.\u00a0Some of them were teachers, police officers, firefighters, plumbers, and physicians. They were of every race, creed, and color.\u00a0These heroes came from all walks of life and from every corner of our nation. They left behind family, friends, and dreams, choosing instead to defend the ideas we hold dear.\u00a0On this solemn day, let us remember their sacrifice with gratitude and humility, and let us all acknowledge the profound grief of their families who have lost loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 21, 2025, the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta hosted a solemn Memorial Day ceremony to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States, giving the last full measure of devotion to our great nation. The event was led by Georgia Department of Veterans Services Commissioner Patricia Ross and brought together state leaders, military personnel, veterans, and members of the public to pay tribute to fallen heroes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony commenced with the presentation of colors by the Georgia National Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Representative Derek McCollum and the National Anthem performed by Ms. Shelley Williams. Chaplain Colonel Kevin Peek offered the invocation. Commissioner Ross emphasized the importance of remembering those who gave their lives for freedoms enjoyed today. During March and April, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts and Districts across Georgia were actively engaged in conducting buddy checks and boosting membership to strengthen the organization statewide. As part of a friendly springtime competition among all 93 Posts and 10 Districts, those achieving the highest membership growth in their respective divisions were honored for their outstanding performance and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Post Winners by Membership Division<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In Georgia Membership Division 1, Gwinnett County Post 5255 in Lawrenceville earned top honors with an impressive 33.79% growth. Division 2 saw Chickamauga Post 3679 in Rossville take the lead with a 27.55% increase in membership. Quigg-Goss Post 4911 in Rome claimed the top spot in Division 3, growing by 32.46%. In Division 4, M C Purcell Post 8379 in Glennville achieved a remarkable 58.05% increase, securing first place. Rounding out the competition, J Barry Jones Post 3563 in Lyons led Division 5 with a 43.89% membership gain. Each Post secured $500 for its achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All ten VFW Districts in Georgia worked diligently to grow membership by reaching out to more veterans and strengthening engagement within their local Posts. Following a spirited competition across the state, District 1 emerged as the top performer with a 15.92% increase in membership; District 1 in composed of the ten Posts in northwest Georgia. In recognition of their outstanding effort, District 1 will be awarded $500 to continue advancing their membership initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Battling Beyond 105%<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
State Commander Couch set a bold goal by challenging Posts across Georgia to reach 105% in overall membership. This ambitious target not only drives growth but also strengthens the Georgia VFW\u2019s position as a leading voice for veterans, both at the Gold Dome in Atlanta and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. These efforts ensure the VFW remains a vital force in supporting veterans and their families throughout communities across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To reward Posts that met or exceeded 105% membership by the end of April and that grew by at least one percent or added ten members during the months of March and April, each qualifying Post was entered into a $300 drawing, with one winner selected per Georgia VFW Membership Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During March and April, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts and Districts across Georgia were actively engaged in conducting buddy checks and boosting membership to strengthen the organization statewide. As part of a friendly springtime competition among all 93 Posts and 10 Districts, those achieving the highest membership growth in their respective divisions were honored for their outstanding performance and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Post Winners by Membership Division<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In Georgia Membership Division 1, Gwinnett County Post 5255 in Lawrenceville earned top honors with an impressive 33.79% growth. Division 2 saw Chickamauga Post 3679 in Rossville take the lead with a 27.55% increase in membership. Quigg-Goss Post 4911 in Rome claimed the top spot in Division 3, growing by 32.46%. In Division 4, M C Purcell Post 8379 in Glennville achieved a remarkable 58.05% increase, securing first place. Rounding out the competition, J Barry Jones Post 3563 in Lyons led Division 5 with a 43.89% membership gain. Each Post secured $500 for its achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recognition of their outstanding effort, District 1 will be awarded $500 to continue advancing their membership initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Battling Beyond 105%<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
State Commander Couch set a bold goal by challenging Posts across Georgia to reach 105% in overall membership. This ambitious target not only drives growth but also strengthens the Georgia VFW\u2019s position as a leading voice for veterans, both at the Gold Dome in Atlanta and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. These efforts ensure the VFW remains a vital force in supporting veterans and their families throughout communities across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, we celebrate the birth of our great nation. Today is a day rooted in courage, sacrifice, and the unshakable belief that freedom is worth fighting for. Freedom has a price. We\u2019ve paid it. We honor it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As your State Commander and a proud combat veteran, I know firsthand the cost of liberty just like my fellow brother and sister who have answered call. I also know the strength of our veteran community, the resilience of our families, and the unwavering spirit of the American people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let us honor those who came before us, remember those who serve today, and recommit ourselves to protecting the freedoms we hold dear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorial Day is a time for reflection, a time to pay tribute to these heroes who have laid down their lives to protect our freedoms and ensure our way of life. Their name etched in the annals of history represents a story of bravery, sacrifice, and love of country. We must remember and try to reflect on the lives they left behind. The next-door neighbors and the kids who lived down the block \u2013 they were high school quarterbacks, cheerleaders and, yes, even class clowns.\u00a0Some of them were teachers, police officers, firefighters, plumbers, and physicians. They were of every race, creed, and color.\u00a0These heroes came from all walks of life and from every corner of our nation. They left behind family, friends, and dreams, choosing instead to defend the ideas we hold dear.\u00a0On this solemn day, let us remember their sacrifice with gratitude and humility, and let us all acknowledge the profound grief of their families who have lost loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let us strive to build a nation worthy of their sacrifice \u2013 a nation where freedom, equality, and justice are not just words but the foundation of our society. In the words of President John F. Kennedy, \u201cA nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces, but also by the men it honors.\u201d Today, we honor and remember our fallen heroes, and, in doing so, we reveal the strength, compassion, and unity that define us as a nation. On May 21, 2025, the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta hosted a solemn Memorial Day ceremony to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States, giving the last full measure of devotion to our great nation. The event was led by Georgia Department of Veterans Services Commissioner Patricia Ross and brought together state leaders, military personnel, veterans, and members of the public to pay tribute to fallen heroes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony commenced with the presentation of colors by the Georgia National Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Representative Derek McCollum and the National Anthem performed by Ms. Shelley Williams. Chaplain Colonel Kevin Peek offered the invocation. Commissioner Ross emphasized the importance of remembering those who gave their lives for freedoms enjoyed today. She highlighted that Memorial Day is not just a holiday but a day of reflection and gratitude for the selfless service of the nation's military personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Major General Dwayne Wilson, Georgia's Adjutant General, addressed the gathering, acknowledging the presence of Gold Star families and recognizing the profound loss they have endured. He spoke about the courage and dedication of service members who laid down their lives for the country. Following Georgia\u2019s Adjutant General, Governor Brian Kemp delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by military families. He reiterated the significance of Memorial Day as a time to honor those who died in defense of the nation and to reflect on the cost of freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony also featured participation from various Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs), including the Georgia Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). State Commander Joe Couch and VFW leadership from across Georgia joined in the tribute, underscoring the unity and respect shared among veterans, families, and active-duty service members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As this year\u2019s ceremony concluded, attendees were reminded of the true meaning of Memorial Day \u2013 a solemn occasion to remember and honor the men and women who have died in military service to the United States. As we approach the final weeks of the VFW 2024-2025 term, I would like to invite all to accept this final challenge. This challenge is for the period 1 May -15 Jun 2025, to which I have established the following: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Post that attains the most growth in Membership will receive<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st place $500<\/li>\n\n\n\n
2nd place $300<\/li>\n\n\n\n
3rd place $150<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
In addition, the Post that moves the highest percentage in membership growth during this same period will receive $200. This winner cannot be a winner of the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place as addressed above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During March and April, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts and Districts across Georgia were actively engaged in conducting buddy checks and boosting membership to strengthen the organization statewide. As part of a friendly springtime competition among all 93 Posts and 10 Districts, those achieving the highest membership growth in their respective divisions were honored for their outstanding performance and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Post Winners by Membership Division<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
In Georgia Membership Division 1, Gwinnett County Post 5255 in Lawrenceville earned top honors with an impressive 33.79% growth. Division 2 saw Chickamauga Post 3679 in Rossville take the lead with a 27.55% increase in membership. Quigg-Goss Post 4911 in Rome claimed the top spot in Division 3, growing by 32.46%. In Division 4, M C Purcell Post 8379 in Glennville achieved a remarkable 58.05% increase, securing first place. Rounding out the competition, J Barry Jones Post 3563 in Lyons led Division 5 with a 43.89% membership gain. Each Post secured $500 for its achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Growth Within Georgia VFW Districts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
All ten VFW Districts in Georgia worked diligently to grow membership by reaching out to more veterans and strengthening engagement within their local Posts. Following a spirited competition across the state, District 1 emerged as the top performer with a 15.92% increase in membership; District 1 in composed of the ten Posts in northwest Georgia. In recognition of their outstanding effort, District 1 will be awarded $500 to continue advancing their membership initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Battling Beyond 105%<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
State Commander Couch set a bold goal by challenging Posts across Georgia to reach 105% in overall membership. This ambitious target not only drives growth but also strengthens the Georgia VFW\u2019s position as a leading voice for veterans, both at the Gold Dome in Atlanta and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. These efforts ensure the VFW remains a vital force in supporting veterans and their families throughout communities across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To reward Posts that met or exceeded 105% membership by the end of April and that grew by at least one percent or added ten members during the months of March and April, each qualifying Post was entered into a $300 drawing, with one winner selected per Georgia VFW Membership Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
