On February 6, 2025, Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Georgia State Commander Joe Couch and Georgia VFW Chief of Staff Wayne Collins had the honor to accept Georgia House Resolution 182, honoring Retired Master Sergeant Louis C. Graziano. Comrade Graziano had a distinguished service in the military including significant sacrifice and heroism when he landed on Omaha Beach during the Third Wave on D-Day, endured through the Battle of the Bulge, and the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Later, in 2021, his extraordinary service was recognized when the Consul General of the Republic of France knighted him as a recipient of the French Legion Medal of Honor.
Sponsored by Representatives Gary Richardson (125th District), Chas Cannon (172nd District), David Clark (100th District), Mitchell Horner (3rd District), and Josh Bonner (73rd District), House Resolution 182 was introduced on February 5, 2025, and read on the Georgia General Assembly House floor by Representative Gary Richardson, honoring the life and achievements of Comrade Graziano. HR 182 resolves that the Georgia House commends Retired Master Sergeant Louis Graziano for his “unselfish, dedicated, and loving service to the members of his family, state, and nation.” It also marked Comrade Graziano’s 102nd birthday.
As Comrade Graziano nor his family were able to attend Commander Couch was designated by the family to be their representative. Following the ceremony, Commander Couch expressed how it was truly an honor to attend on behalf of Comrade Graziano.
